Fuse is proudly LEED Silver Certified….But what does this mean?
For starters, LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
It is a building certification process developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), which is a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C.
According to their page, “The USGBC developed the LEED certification process to enhance environmental awareness among architects and building contractors, and to encourage the design and construction of energy-efficient, water-conserving buildings that use sustainable or green resources and materials.”
Buildings can become LEED certified through a series of steps. USGBC goes on to say that, “The LEED certification process uses a point system to determine the environmental merits of a building; there are different rating systems for homes, commercial buildings, interior renovations, schools, neighborhood developments, and other construction projects.”
So basically, this certification was developed to encourage developers to go green and give them a high five for doing so. You’re saving the environment and being recognized for doing it. Sounds awesome right?
You bet it does!
The Four levels of LEED Certification:
Upon evaluation, the project is given a certificate along with a level. The levels are: certified, silver, gold and platinum.
There are Nine key areas measured to determine these scores.
1. Sustainable Sites
2. Water Efficiency
3. Energy and Atmosphere
4. Materials and Resources
5. Indoor Environmental Quality
6. Location and Linkages
7. Awareness and Education
8. Innovation in Design
9. Regional Priority
The certification will look something like this and most developments will proudly showcase it.
So why are most organizations and companies Going Green? It’s the future of developments!
Preserving our resources and the environment around us is extremely important and fortunately, we’re beginning to realize that.
In addition to working towards a better tomorrow, you’re also setting yourself up for success by purchasing equipment, setting Green standards, etc., that will be more common in the future – thus preventing an expensive upgrade.
How Can You Go Green?
Feeling inspired? Here’s how you can Go Green right inside your own apartment!
Say Goodbye to Plastic and Hello to Reusable Bottles
Obviously plastic is a pretty common component in our society but there are ways you can avoid using it!
Plastic water bottles fill up a large portion of landfills, so invest in a stainless steel, reusable, water bottle! Not only will you be saving the environment but you’ll be saving yourself a lot of money. Why continue to purchase several bottles you’ll throw away when you can have one?
Did you know that even if an appliance or electronic is off it can continue to draw energy from power sources if it’s still plugged in?
Unplug completely and you’ll save energy while also knocking out a portion of your electricity bill!
Let Out Your Inner Green Thumb
Not only do certain plants within your apartment keep the air cleaner, but they’re a great addition to apartment décor.
Showcase your love for the environment!
So there you have it, why Going Green is the future for apartment living. And for everyone for that matter!
