Bar Hopping on the Red Line: 5 Joints in 5 Squares
October 6, 2015 | Events
Destination 1- Davis Square: Red Bones BBQ
55 Chester St, Somerville, MA, 02144
Founded in 1987 and still kickin’ today, Red Bones BBQ is one of the older bars you’ll find on Davis Square. With all the southern comfort food you can eat and a total of 29 fresh brews on tap, this joint’s menu is likely to send you into a food coma.
If you’re looking for an event to celebrate the beginnings of fall then we recommend checking out Red Bones’ upcoming Oktoberfest on Sunday, September 27th 12-6PM! Can we get a Yeehaw to good food and good drinks?
Destination 2-Porter Square: West Side Lounge
1680 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA 02138
When you walk through the doors of this popular bar, be prepared to make the West Side Martini your drink of choice. Made with premium Vodka, Remy Martin, and their delicious hand-stuffed blue cheese olives, this drink will give you the perfect kick to begin your night.
But there’s more….the recovery food. After a long night of socializing head back in the morning and choose from a large selection on their brunch menu. From their toasty Warm Donut Holes to their assortment of fresh omelets, you’ll find yourself in food heaven!
Also, the West Side Lounge is known to be a buzzing spot on Porter Square, so note that it’s advised to make a reservation before heading over.
Destination 3- Harvard Square: Noir
1 Bennett St, Cambridge, MA, 02138
Although this jazzy cocktail lounge was founded fairly recently in 2002, expect a blast from the past upon entering. With live music, the sparkle of the 1940’s nightlife, and a wide selection of drinks, this is the perfect place to top off your night.
We recommend trying out their signature drink, the Boomerang. A sugary pick-me-up, this beverage is filled with Bourbon, thyme brown sugar, Carpano Bianco, and grapefruit juice.
Noir also offers several events to bring in the fun, especially on weekends. Check out their upcoming Paint Nite on Sunday, September 27th 5PM. The best part? No experience necessary. So grab a drink and paint your heart away!
Destination 4- Central Square: Green Street Grill
280 Green St, Cambridge, MA 02139
Reopened and back in action since 2006 this joint is quite the hole-in-the-wall of Central Square. But don’t let Green Street’s cozy, friendly neighbor, vibe fool you. With its award-winning A to Z cocktail menu, meticulously selected wines, and host of small craft beers, Green Street has gained both local and national notice.
The Sugar Daddy is a personal favorite among the regulars; a beverage mixed with zaya 12 year gran reserve snifter, ginger beer and mint pony. Not to mention that the food is spectacular.
Destination 5- Kendall Square: Café ArtScience
650 East Kendall St, Cambridge, MA 02142
The new kid on the block, Café ArtScience, opened in 2014 and has since become popular with the locals. Innovative food with French and American roots in an environment of sensorial design, this hip and fresh establishment is where you’ll find the young crowd.
And you won’t be surprised to find that their signature drink is just as creative as the atmosphere. The Smoked Cocoa Nib Negroni is a wild mix of beefeater gin, cocoa nib infused carpano, and Campari. We dare you to give it a try.
As for events, the Private Dining Room, also known as the Honeycomb, opens up to the Café allowing for enough space to up to 80 guests. From a small family party to a corporate celebration, this place can accommodate!
So there you have it. 5 Bars in 5 of Cambridge’s Squares that you MUST check out while riding the Red Line.
Cheers to good times and good vibes!
